Day 0 – 1 Mar, 2015
As I begin this new chapter of my life, it has also meant saying goodbye to many people, places and things that have been important pieces of who I am. I have had to leave behind friends I adore and coworkers I respect.
I have had to leave Chicago, a city that has been more than home to me for almost 13 years. Chicago has also been a supporting character in a whole series of life events in the last decade or so.
My best friend and partner in crime, my dog, Jackson, is nearing his 15th year and may not be around when I return from my travels. I have entrusted his care to Mom and Dad.
Leaving some of the creature comforts of home won’t be easy. A hot shower and air conditioning can no longer be assumed. A fast internet connection will be a luxury.
But in spite of all of this, I am filled with awe and wonder about the road that lies ahead. I will meet amazing people and be consistently pushed outside of my comfort zone. I will be open-minded to new possibilities and new experiences. I will say yes to invitations that aren’t dangerous. I will learn a language and volunteer with animals. I will spend a lot of time outdoors in the fresh air. I will slow down and enjoy every minute as if it is my last.
To all the friends and family that are and have been infinitely supportive of my new nomadic journey, please know that you are never far from my thoughts and I am excited for our paths to cross again one day.
